It's a sad day for rock 'n roll. Robert Lewis Burns Jr. has died at the age of 64. The original Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer passed away in a single-car crash in Georgia on Friday, April 3.
Georgia State Patrol tells outlet Fox23 that Burns swerved off the road and hit a mailbox and tree. He was also not wearing a seat belt at the time.
Burns was a founding member of the American rock band that skyrocketed to fame in the late '60s and early '70s. Some of their biggest hits include "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird."

Sadly, tragedy has struck the band before. Lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, and vocalist Cassie Gaines were killed in a 1977 plane crash.
Burns left the band in the '70s, and rejoined the group for a performance at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2006.
